But Arkham Asylum isn't.
It portrays a descent into madness with artwork that's so dark, edgy, and blurry that the atmosphere it creates is one of a surreal, waking nightmare. In addition to diving headfirst into insanity, it also shows the self-actualization of the '80's and '90's, Dark Knight, animated-series style Batman, as he rises above the madness surrounding him. You know, the dark, brooding one... as opposed to the one from the live action television show.
The last, and perhaps most impressive feat of all, was the recurrent symbolism, especially after reading the explanation of it in the annotated copy of the final script that was included after the comic.
